Tashen has just released a comprehensive study on the history of typography and graphic styles from 1628 through 1900, tracing the evolution of the modern printed letter. The book also takes an in depth look at the graphic elements that make up the typefaces from older Victorian styles such as borders, ornamentation and decorations.
A study so large that they had to issue two volumes, this is the first that covers pre-20th century typeface. It also comes with a Taschen keycard that provides access to over a 1000 hi-res scans that can be downloaded with unrestricted use.
Graphic nerds can go to the Tashen website and even preview the book by digitally leafing through all 362 pages online. Thanks for the heads up Curated Mag.
