To live and work as an artist in Los Angeles is to daily travel with too much awareness through a land filled everywhere with images of ghosts and ghosts of images. It is to confront head on the problem of never knowing exactly what is real about the city you call home, and to find some truth in that. In a place like this, to state the obvious is thus to state quite a bit. This is a show of artists who live and work in Los Angeles.

All I’m praying for is that it won’t be as disastrously hot as it is now, because I don’t know how cute it’ll be seeing girls reapply their makeup over their already melted off caked on masterpieces. Then again I’m kind of excited to see that. Oh and the pit stains, I love my men with pit stains. Its a fun time to be had by all, between it being the strangest mixture of people you’ll see and the pervs scoping out and around for jail bait, all to a backdrop of good music, it’s quite the scene to be missed. So don’t miss it!

Family bookstore in Los Angeles is known for their immaculately curated collection of comics, art books, contemporary fiction, great events, and a keen eye for gems of lost genres.  None of this is news really.  What is news is that they’ve released their first book of prose on their publishing label.  This memoir by Charles Willeford, titled “I Was Looking For a Street” focuses on episodes from the legend-among-those-who-know’s days as a train hopping runaway in the middle of a Depression-Era southwest.  His spare and straightforward prose is often shockingly frank, and this economy of phrase produces a tireless rhythm throughout.  For Angeleos, it’s a must-read slice of the city’s history.  For writers, it’s practically a style manual.  For anyone else of our generation with a gilded view of the lives of their great-grand- and grandparents in America, it should absolutely not be missed.

Sixpack France have curated an art opening this weekend in Culver City featuring an installation of new works by National Forest founders Steven Harrington and Justin Krietemeyer with Brigitte Sire. Also featuring domestic and overseas friends Akroe, Honet, ILL-Studio, Pmkfa, Jean-Baptiste de Laubier, Jonathan Zawada, Neil Krug, Daniel Sparkes, Cody Hudson, Russell Maurice and Mark Owens.
