PRE PARTY JAMZ

I was asked to do a mix for the popular mixtape series “Pre Party Jamz” on Nicky Digital’s site.  Past mixtapers include Crookers, Jokers of the Scene, Drop the Lime, Andrew W.K. and a zillion others.  My favorite moment would be the transition between the first two tracks has Steve Miller singing his ” doo-doo-do-do’s ” over Shazam’s excellent boogie funk ” Hello Cat. ” Tracklist available after the jump.

DRUM BUMS

drumz

My Norcal bros over at Solid Bump tipped me off to these awesome drum sample collections, both featuring live drums, multisampled,  and mic’d through preamps to 2″ tape and all that good nerdy stuff.  Even though to Brother Reade dudes record their own drum samples,  I figured all my other producer homies could always use more ( live ) drums.  They’re setup to pop in to your logic exs24 sampler, but if you’re an Abletoner like myself, you can just drag and drop your samples straight into the sequencer, into your simpler sampler, or your drum kit.  Enjoy!

David_Axelrod_1969

Let’s start this week off correctly, set the tone and you know, “get your mind right”. A selection off of David Axelrod’s incredibly influential “Songs of Experience”. You’ll easily recognize the phrase liberated by another highly influential producer.

The Human Abstract – 320

*Bonus - Here is a 2001 article from The Fader where Egon, PB Wolf, and Madlib sit in on a recording session with David Axelrod at Capitol Records.

post rainy day jamz.

On Friday I paid a visit to the fine pervaders of new vinyl records in Echo Park… Origami Vinyl! They used to take half of my gross income when I was living in the neighborhood. Now that I’m a whopping fifteen minutes minutes away I don’t get to see my homies as much as I’d like but when I do I always find something to take away, typically on their recommendation. You should ask them what they’re into yourself, they listen to records all…day…long. Odds are they’ll put it on for you, if they’re not already listening to it.

On this occasion I was put on to Salem, in particular this track titled Frost. It got released a few months back, some might be hip to it but it’s worth a second push. Now in these frostier times {{people not in from L.A. are gonna think I’m a prick}} songs like these can meld with storm-clouds and enhance the slippery slopes of the Eastside.

Enjoy.

NOUVEAU YORICAN & LAUREN FLAX

My friend who’s a girl put out a record with a dude that was remixed by my friend.  My other friend who’s a girl put out a record with another girl and was remixed by another friend.  Moving on.  Our favorite dance music fanatic Gina Turner has teamed up with BXB favorite Laidback Larry to form Nouveau Yorican.  Signed to quite possibly my favorite label at the moment Sound Pellegrino.  Our friend Harvard Bass did a remix which you can grab for free from RCRD LBL.  Our other favorite female DJ dance music  person Lauren Flax just released her remix ep for the song ” You’ve Changed ” with BXB friend Sia, which in turn was also remixed by our friend, and contributor Dan Oh.  A tangled web indeed, I was planning on doing a brady bunch style image with 4 squares of djs faces looking across and down at each other, but that sounds like a whole lot of work.

Paul White and his label One Handed Music have made his latest record “Sounds from the Skylight” (A reference to Paul’s London attic studio) available for FREE as Hi Res files, none of that 128 biz.

“Woozy, psychedelic hiphop from one of the most fertile imaginations of our time.”

I was pretty stoked on his release from earlier this year “The Strange Dreams of Paul White” and One Handed Music as a whole have been putting out quality with Bullion and Fulgeance releases, make sure to check them out.

The link below will take you to both side A and B.
