PUSSYFOOT

LilBBlogBannerThe two coolest Matts I know do a podcast called PussyFoot.  It seems to be getting better and better with each episode, this ones a doozy!  They’ve traveled up north to sunny San Francisco to visit the infamous based god Lil B.  For those who don’t know, Lil B is from the rap group The Pack, who had the song “Vans.” In the last year or so, he’s been going on a Lil Wayne inspired rampage; getting covered in bad tattoos and putting out an shitload of music, mixtapes, and multiple myspace pages.  check it out!

Animal Party Tonight!

Picture 4

I was lucky to see these guys at a dive-ass bar in Anaheim two years ago on the advice of a friend and saw one of the best shows in recent memory. Now they’re playing the Wiltern and I can’t imagine it would be the same.

When they play, King Khan sings and plays lead guitar in drag, while BBQ, sings, plays drums and rhythm guitar, at the same time!

The whole record, Invisible Girl,is garage pop awesome fun time jams. This is by far their most polished album, they’ve learned from their time as King Khan and the Shrines. This song will be stuck in your head, I promise, even if you hate it.

A Day At The Geffen.

wheel_3

If you read my post about this past week being free at MOCA and The Geffen then you know how excited I was to see Chris Burden’s, The Big Wheel. Well the God’s were on my side when I notice a crowd around this woman struggling to start an old blue Triumph that powers….THE BIG WHEEL. It is a display of power and fluidity that most be felt in person. You become the moth to the flame forgetting all about the power it wields. Until the security guard reminds you that it’s a bad idea to be two feet from a 3 tons of kinetic energy.

I was told that twice a day someone starts the motorcycle up, I was around 3:30, F.Y.I.

More of my favorites when you read more…

Chicago

doug I went to Chicago for one day to DJ a party, I randomly jotted down things I noticed.  It probably reads a little rough, but here goes:

Girl at whole foods told me to hold on to my crisp dollar bills because they are rare.  Whole foods in Gold Coast had basically no health food or whole foods products.  No yellow mustard, just Whole grain or Dijon. Man at liquor store wearing ninja turtles sweatshirt told me to come in after 6 because the girl working is a level one Sommelier. I was simply buying a travel pack of Benadryl.  I consider myself to have a decent grasp on urban slang, but I couldn’t understand one word the woman telling me about her mileage offer was saying. I did the unthinkable and purchased a vita coco water at the airport for almost 5 dollars.  Benadryl is the poor man’s Xanax. Chicago street dogs come with the option of fresh celery salt, pickles, tomatoes, etc. LA street dogs come with or without mayonaise. Grown man wearing a new my chemical romance hoodie.

Beautiful Data

Aaron Koblin probably has one of the coolest jobs ever (if you’re a nerd like me). He works at Google Creative Lab, where it looks like all they do all day is think about wild art projects using all the data that Google has at its fingertips. He’s presented at TED, SIGGRAPH, Coachella, has done a Radiohead video, and his work is permanently on display at the MoMA. Some of his most interesting work can be seen in the video above, or on his website.

Nine, or Chicago II

I was actually considering seeing the movie before I saw the trailer. By far the most schizophrenic cast I’ve ever seen. It would only be worth seeing it for Marion Cotillard and Penélope Cruz. What a shock that it was made by the same people who made Chicago. I think I take more offense to this movie than the people that take out their pitchforks for the Twilight movies.

Full cast: Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Nicole Kidman, Penélope Cruz, Judi Dench, Sophia Loren, Stacy Ferguson (Fergie), Kate Hudson

What the hell is going on?

I’ll take a helping of Marion and Penélope any day though.
