First World Problems

Daily meditation:  If you know what a “hertiage band” is, then your band is a heritage band.  Or, you are a sycophant.

A statement released by the Tate Gallery in London: “On Saturday 4 July 2009, a member of the public removed a box of pencils from the desk in Damien Hirst’s installation Pharmacy. The matter is being investigated by the police.” (via The Guardian)

Apparently Damien Hirst is in a squabble with a teenage London Graffiti artist named Cartrain.  The feud began when Hirst put the kibosh on dude’s use of his “For the Love of God” diamond skull in a collage (welcome to the internet era homeslice), and has escalated now that Cartrain has apparently stolen some half-a-million-pound pencils (pounds sterlin’ not lbs).  It’s nice that there are still some quarters of the spit-shined Singapore that is “the art world” that are still dense and obtuse enough to be offended and threatened by graffiti kids.   The whole story is here in the Guardian.  And is definitely worth your time. (LDN INNIT!!!)
